Chapter Six

“Hi. Won’t you have a seat?” The young woman offered her a chair and Natalie gave her a tentative smile. She said her name was Sylvia.

“Thanks.” Natalie clutched her purse in one hand and slid down into the chair on the other side of the desk. She couldn’t believe she was actually sitting here, but after Paige from Shifting Hearts Dating Agency called her that morning, she couldn’t think of any reason not to go. Except fear, and that her mother might be right and no one in their right mind would date her.

Sylvia glanced at the computer screen in front of her and typed in something. “Sorry. Had to update your file. Now, I see you’ve completed the questions. That will definitely speed things up.”

Natalie squirmed in her chair. “Really?”

“Yes.” The other woman clicked her mouse, obviously scrolling through something on the monitor in front of her. “In fact, based on your answers, I may have an event for you tomorrow night.”

Mild panic fluttered through Natalie. “Wait. What kind of event? I thought dating agencies matched up potential mates.”

Sylvia grinned. “We do. But sometimes, you have to think outside the box. Don’t we, Paige?” At her comment, Natalie glanced up to find a female shifter coming through the kitchen area, a cup of coffee in hand. In jeans and a thick sweater, she was the image of confident and sexy poise.

“You got that right.” She set the coffee down on the next desk over. “If you want something, please help yourself.”

“No, thanks. If I have coffee right now, I’ll come out of my skin.”

Paige snorted. “Well, don’t do that. I don’t want to try and have a conversation with a hedgehog. You guys are cute, but it just won’t do.” She took a drink of coffee and leaned over the desk to read the screen.

Sylvia looked up. “She’d be perfect for the Meet and Greet. Don’t you think?”

Instead of answering, the dark-haired beauty looked at Natalie. “We have a social event scheduled at a BDSM club downtown tomorrow night. I see you’ve checked off that you’re interested in meeting shifters into kink and, uh, almost every available box after that. Was that for show or are you serious?”

Shit. How was she supposed to answer that?

“Don’t you just look into the computer, find me someone compatible, and send me on a random blind date? Isn’t that how this works?”

“Sometimes.” Sylvia affirmed.

Paige twisted a long strand of black hair around her fingers. “Or sometimes we think outside the box. It works more often than you think. What would you rather have, an open chance to meet folks who are pre-selected with your interests so you get to choose who you go out with, or let the computer decide who you should be with?”

Heat crept up Natalie’s face. “You got me. I like the first option I guess. I’m interested, but I’ve never done this before.” She plucked at the fabric of her jeans and gave a wobbly smile. “It’s something I keep reading about and well…”

“Go on.
